Bus Eireann operates a bus central station for express buses as a part of the Ceannt Galway train station at the west coast of Ireland:

Dscn7512

This bus station has almost no information to the customers:

Dscn7520

There is a platform number but it is not referenced anywhere.

Dscn7525

Inside the station there is a poster with the departure times from the station, but it does not list the number of the route, so you need to know the final destination of the bus to know which bus to enter. The platform is not referenced.

There are no display showing planned or realtime departures:

Dscn7522

The only information is the destination of the bus:

Dscn7521

Bus Eiran is providing a pilot realtime system from Siemens VDO Automotive that will display realtime information_

Bilde 16

We tested this from Kinnegad to Galway:

Bilde 14-1

The system reports with number of minutes over 30 minutes, then timestamp below 30 min.

The system reported that the bus from Dublin to Galeway was delayed on route to Kinnegad, starting at 12 minutes, then peaking at 39 minutes. Then dropping down to 18 minutes and then suddenly displaying 3 minutes, which was the correct value, the bus arrived at the stop 3 minutes later.

Bilde 17

You need to know the route number to use the realtime system. The Siemens VDO system is provided with a fullscreen button, making it possible to display information at large screens, something that is badly needed at the Galway central bus station.
